We are releasing two related capabilities for inventory management in FieldPulse: automated stock alerts and part reservations. These features are designed to reduce unplanned stockouts and prevent double-commitment of limited parts across multiple work orders.

Inventory Alerts

Administrators can now configure alert thresholds per item or per location. When stock falls below the defined level, FieldPulse sends notifications to designated users. Alerts can be delivered via:

  • In-app notification
  • Email
  • SMS (requires SMS Notifications add-on)

To configure alerts, navigate to Settings → Inventory → Alert Preferences. Thresholds may be set as absolute quantities or as percentages of par level.

Part Reservations

When creating or editing a work order, dispatchers and technicians with appropriate permissions may now reserve parts against that job. Reserved quantities are deducted from available stock but remain in physical inventory until the work order is completed or the reservation is released.

Key behaviors:

  • Reservations are visible in the Inventory → Reservations view
  • A part with active reservations shows as Available: X (Reserved: Y) in all selection interfaces
  • Reservations are automatically released when a work order is cancelled or deleted
  • Partial completions release only the unneeded quantity

See Part Reservation Not Being Released After Job Cancellation for known edge cases and manual release procedures.

Permissions

Two new permissions control access:

  • Manage Inventory Alerts — create, edit, and delete alert rules
  • Reserve Parts — reserve and release parts against work orders

These permissions are granted to the Administrator and Operations Manager roles by default. Other roles may be configured in Settings → User Management → Role Permissions.

Availability

Both features are available immediately on web. Mobile support for viewing and creating reservations will follow in the Q3 mobile update.

  • Hi Brandon! Happy to help you get your team up and running. We want to make sure you're set up for success here.

The fastest path is usually a phased rollout: start with your dispatchers who create work orders, then bring technicians in once the reservation data is flowing. I can schedule a 30-minute walkthrough for your team leads this week — just let me know what works.

In the meantime, there's a quick-start guide in the Help Center under Inventory → Getting Started. Feel free to reach out directly if you need anything else!
