FieldPulse Terminology Reference
This glossary defines the core terms used throughout the FieldPulse platform and documentation. Terms are organized alphabetically by category.
Work Orders
- Work Order
- The primary unit of work in FieldPulse. A work order represents a job to be completed by a technician, containing customer information, location, scheduled time, and task details. See Setting Up Your First Work Order and Creating and Assigning a Work Order.
- Work Order Status
- The current state of a work order in its lifecycle. Standard statuses include Scheduled, Assigned, In Progress, On Hold, Completed, and Cancelled. For complete definitions, see Work Order Status Definitions.
- Work Order Template
- A reusable configuration for common job types. Templates pre-populate fields such as service type, checklist assignments, and estimated duration. See Using Work Order Templates.
- Primary Technician
- The technician designated as lead on a work order. Responsible for job completion and customer communication. See Assigning Multiple Technicians to a Single Work Order.
Scheduling & Dispatch
- Dispatch Board
- The centralized scheduling interface displaying unassigned jobs, technician availability, and current assignments. See Using the Dispatch Board.
- Time Block
- A reserved period on a technician's calendar. May represent a scheduled job, travel time, or unavailability.
- Route Optimization
- The automated sequencing of jobs to minimize travel time and distance. See Route Optimization: How It Works.
- Emergency Job
- A work order flagged for same-day or immediate scheduling, bypassing standard queue priority. See Handling Emergency and Unscheduled Jobs.
Mobile App
- Offline Mode
- A state in which the mobile application operates without active network connectivity. Data is stored locally and synchronized upon reconnection. See Using FieldPulse Offline and Syncing Data When You Reconnect.
- Sync
- The process of transmitting locally stored data to and retrieving updated data from the FieldPulse servers.
- Push Notification
- An alert delivered to the mobile device operating system, informing the technician of new assignments, status changes, or dispatch messages. See Enabling Push Notifications on Mobile.
Inventory
- Inventory Item
- A part, material, or consumable tracked in the FieldPulse inventory system. See Adding and Editing Inventory Items.
- Part Reservation
- A temporary hold on inventory items allocated to an upcoming work order. Prevents double-allocation of limited stock. See Reserving Inventory for Upcoming Jobs.
- Low-Stock Alert
- An automated notification triggered when inventory quantity falls below a defined threshold. See Setting Low-Stock Alerts.
Forms & Checklists
- Checklist Template
- A reusable form structure containing fields, questions, and validation rules for field documentation. See Creating a Custom Checklist Template.
- Conditional Logic
- Rules that display or require fields based on responses to preceding questions. See Conditional Logic in Checklist Forms.
- Compliance Tracking
- The monitoring of required safety or regulatory form completion across work orders. See Safety Form Requirements and Compliance Tracking.
Notifications
- Customer Notification
- An automated message sent to the customer regarding appointment confirmation, technician arrival, or job completion. See Setting Up Customer Notifications.
- SLA (Service Level Agreement)
- A defined commitment for response or resolution time. Breach alerts notify stakeholders when thresholds are exceeded. See SLA Breach Alerts.
Reporting
- Work Order Summary
- A report aggregating work order data by status, technician, date range, or other dimensions. See Running a Work Order Summary Report.
- Technician Performance
- Metrics including jobs completed, average time on site, and customer rating. See Technician Performance Reports.
Administration & Security
- User Role
- A defined set of permissions determining system access levels. Standard roles include Administrator, Dispatcher, Technician, and Read-Only. See Managing User Roles and Permissions.
- Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)
- An additional security layer requiring a secondary verification method at login. See Enabling Two-Factor Authentication.
- Audit Log
- A chronological record of account activity, including logins, data modifications, and permission changes. See Audit Logs: Viewing Account Activity.
Integrations
- Webhook
- An HTTP callback triggered by events in FieldPulse, delivering data to external systems. See Setting Up Webhooks.
- API Key
- A credential used to authenticate programmatic access to the FieldPulse API. See Using the FieldPulse API.
- Sync
- In integration contexts, the bidirectional or unidirectional exchange of data between FieldPulse and an external system such as QuickBooks or Salesforce.
